Three-Winding Autotransformer Fault Study and Impact on Protection Application

چکیده
Autotransformers (ATs) have been widely used for many years. For large size ATs, a tertiary winding is usually included. Sometimes the tertiary winding is loaded for station service, local loads, VAR compensation, etc. Other times, the tertiary winding is buried and acts as stabilizing winding which provides a path for zero-sequence current and 3rd harmonic current. Three-winding ATs present some interesting and different problems for fault study and relay application. Some of these problems are not well understood among protection engineers. The delta-connected tertiary winding may not have large impact on positive and negative sequence network. However, it has a significant impact on the zero-sequence network. Very often we encounter one minus impedance in transformer equivalent T model. The minus impedance will further complicate the zero-sequence current magnitude and direction. If protection engineers do not have proper understanding of transformer model and the fault study, misapplication and misoperation of protection relays are likely to happen. This paper will discuss the equivalent model of 3-winding for fault study, zero-sequence current distribution, and impact on zero-sequence current based polarization and overcurrent application.

Characterization of Power Transformer Electromagnetic Forces Affected by Winding Faults
Electromagnetic forces in power transformer windings are produced by interaction between the leakage fluxes and current passing them. Since the leakage flux distribution along the windings height is in two axial and radial directions, so the electromagnetic forces have two components, radial and axial. There is a risk that a large electromagnetic force due to the short circuit or inrush current...
متن کاملRecognition and Location of Power Transformer Turn to Turn Fault by Analysis of Winding Imposed Forces
Turn to turn fault is one of the major internal failures in the power transformers that if it is not quickly detected, can be extended and led to a complete transformer breakdown. So, the diagnosis and location of the turn to turn fault of the power transformer, as one of the most important equipment in the power system, is the main objective of this paper. For this purpose, a detailed model of...

Multiple coupled circuit modeling (MCCM) of squirrel-cage induction motors (SCIMs), or winding function approach is the most detailed and complete analytical model used to analyze the performance of faulty SCIMs. Already, in variate papers this approach was used to 3phases SCIMs, but this paper extends the above-mentioned model to 6phases SCIMs. Various simulations of variative faults are carri...

Three phase induction motors have many applications in industries. Consequently, detecting and estimating the fault and compensate it in a way that the faulty induction motor satisfies the predefined goals are important issues. One of the most common faults in induction motors is the short circuit of the stator winding. In this paper, an active fault-tolerant control system is designed and pres...
